Default New guy here for my sister.

Hey guys my names Rick. My sister just picked up a 96 rs camaro V6. I was wondering if there is any mods that can be done to it, well she wants to know. She really just asked about an intake and exhaust. Can anything be done to it? I had a 85 2.8l camaro third gen and there was nothing but a ram air kit for it. They didn't do anything for the V6 3rd gens from what I found. Can she do anythinglike CAI, tuner ext... What exhaust sounds respectable also? Is there any sound clip you guys can dig up. Would an x or h pipe hurt?

Thanks and appreciate the help

having that avatar is like osama bin laden walking up to the white house...hideous...jk

I have the same car...does it have the Y87 Package (LSD, 3.42's, 4 wheel Discs, Z28 Steering Ratio)

ok...single exhaust is best for V6 cars. Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Pacesetter, Borla all make catbacks
Pacesetter makes Headers.
Catco, Random Tech, and Magnaflow make High Flow Cats
you can find a custom CAI on ebay w/ a K&N Filter

summitracing.com and texas-speed.com have lots of parts (ones listed above)

as for PCM work...there are no tuners and you cannot tune a 96 PCM, you have to use a 97 PCM and put it in your 96

There is actually a lot that can be done.

You have the obvious catback exhaust, high flow cat, and cold air intake. Then there is JET performance chip, JET Programmer or Hypertech programmer.

If you want to go a bit further, you could do heads, a cam, or a bunch of other internal work. Then there is forced induction. I'm not too familiar with a 96' RS... Does that come with a 3.4 or a 3.8? Anyway, I know she could get either a turbo or a supercharger, at least one is available depending on the engine size. And of course nos is very rough on your engine but is possible on anything with a motor.

96's have 3.8's...and you can't do **** w/ the 96 PCM

lol its just the car i have now. I like camaros alot but I fell for the new 05 body style of the mustangs. Can't wait to see the 09 camaros, there gunna be sick.

Im not sure that it has all the package stuff you just posted. It gets up and gos for what it is. I was suprised for how much mileage was on it. Its at the shop getting the oil changed and radiator had to be flushed like 3 times! lol Were getting the plugs and wires done for her too. Trying to get some of that natrual power back to it. Need to do the fuel filter too.

What companies do the CAI? Or is there only custom ones avalible. It looks like it wouldn't fit in there anywhere! lol Would u need to tune it after? Would it throw a CEL? Not sure how sensitive the computers are on these cars. The 05 and stangs are crazy. Some of the intake u need to by a tuner with it.

So you'd wanna stay with a single exhaust then yea? Think an x or h pipe would loose some tq/power? With the 4.0 ford its more of a prefrence you don't loose or really gain going to duals. I'll take your guys word for it though.

I doubt she'll do internal work or supercharger or turbo. Shes not that into it. She just wants a intake and exhaust but she doen't want it to sound like a Civic. The exhaust sound pretty good/low stock!I know magnaflow suck on the newer mustangs. It just don't do justice. Don't know for the camaros though. My 85 magnaflow was alright.

Whats the hp and tq at the motor stock?? Oh and what would a rebuilt stock 3.8motor cost around?

L36 3800 Series II: 200hp/225tq

I have a custom CAI i bought on ebay w/ a K&N Filter...lots of junk CAI's on there but they're some good ones too

My 96 RS has the Y87 (3800 Performance Package) which includes an Auburn Limited Slip Differential, 3.42 Gears, Four Wheel Disc Brakes, and 14.4:1 Z28 Steering Ratio...look on the door tag and if you see 'Y87' you have the package.

pcmforless.com has mail-in tunes, but once again, you will have to buy a 97 pcm, send it in and get it tuned, and then put the 97 pcm in your car

my CAI didn't throw a code btw

also, RS=Appearance Package (gfx and rs spoiler)
