hello im new to this forum and I just bought a 1996 camaro RS w/ the Y87 package so it has 4.10 gears and posi drive. I previously drove a cavalier z24 with mods and plan to mod this camaro but i dont know what kind of mods gain the most power and what brand names to look for. Can anybody give me a heads up on what makes these cars go (intake, header, exhaust, tires, cams, etc?..)? and which brand names to choose? thanks.

 

First off welcome...For performance you can do many things on a 96 RS..You can upgrade your Cold air-intake. If you get the real one it should cost about $200. The aftermarket ones are ok...for about $40 but that's up to you. Then you can tune your car with a programmer if you buy one yourself it's about $300. It's easy to do yourself. Now for exhaust....I prefer magnaflow cat back systems....but you can listen for yourself on www.magnaflow.com or if you want flowmasters go to www.flowmastermufflers.com. Then you can choose the system you want. You can also get Headers from BBK. As for power....you can get a supercharger off a bonneville it will bolt right on with just minor mods. Or you can get a NOS system. But make sure whoever installs this does it right. Important thing to remember is your braking system. The more power you car has the quicker you have to stop. So you may want to upgrade your brakes and rotors. People tend to forget this part. Then you can upgrade your suspension. Shocks..struts...and springs so your car can handle better. As for tires..you can go with Nitto's or BFgoodrich.
