When you disconnected the MAF you forced the PCM into open loop, which means the PCM is ignoring most sensors and working on internal predefined tables. If the engine works better in open loop it is an indication of a bad sensor, but not necessarily the MAF. You can look at the output of the various sensors using a scanner and verify that the data they are sending makes sense. As an example, if the engine is up to normal running temp and the ECT sending 20 degrees F, you know that sensor is wrong. You can run with the MAF disconnected and it won't cause any damage, however power and fuel economy may be down a bit.

The PCM can go bad, but it is very unlikely. Just because you replaced a bunch of stuff does not mean the replacement was good. The wiring and connectors attaching the sensors to the PCM go bad almost as much as the sensors themseves.

as pete said you need to take it to a place that has a diagnostic machine like a tech 1 that can show what the computer is seeing. that way if you see intake air temp of 350 degrees you know theres a problem with that sensor or the wires to that connector.

update..... i have been running open loop on the maf for about 6 months apparently its fried in the pcm so its not reading how to breathe properly causing the reverse bands to go out so reverse is still slipping, will be converting it all over to a 350, 700r4 trans, and all out of a 94 caprice. Any body know of any issues reguarding a motor swap? Thanks

yes i have taken it but they took me on a $3000 adventure and now i have no reverse. and yes i know they are heavily involved. i have everything i need to do this, but i am swapping out tranny first so that i can go through motor and fine tune all the details before swapping them out
