Default Need help fixing Cigarette Lighter

Hi. I have a '95 camaro and the cigarette lighter won't work. I troubleshooted the fuse and it works fine. the lighter itself wont pop out and it rotates 360 degrees which leads me to believe that the wire is disconnected behind the console. how do i removed the casette tape console? can anyone offer advice on this or where to see a free manual on getting access to the rear of the cig lighter?

thanks!

Is the cig lighter mounted in the center console just below the stereo? If so, it might be just as easy to remove the center console, there are only 2 or 3 screws that hold it in. I would use a test light or multimeter on the cig lighter to make sure that there is no power to it before removing it. You could have a bad cig lighter element that plugs into the cig lighter.

Mine did the same thing. I went to Autozone, picked up a new lighter and socket. Fixed it perfectly.

If you are looking at that console and can not see those bolts my suggestion is to throw away all your tools and pay someone to fix it for you.

There is one or two screws in the rear and there is one screw in the very front of the console. I can't remember and I just removed one of these a couple weeks ago. I had to raise the emergency brake lever all the way up to completely remove but you should be able to check out the lighter without completely removing it.

mine has a small rectangular piece that holds the lighter, the piece and lighter pops out. has a plastic push on in type retainer, dont have to take the console out it.
