misc. rear end noise
Ive got a 96 camaro rs with a 3.8 v6 in it. From the first day I bought my car(2001), I noticed there was a rear end noise. It happens when I am idling and about to accelerate and also happens when I start to slow down..it even does it in reverse when im going slow..it is still doing this but the sound gets annoying..its like a clunk clunk noise or a weird whining noise. Ive had my exhaust, shocks, and rear end checked but they cant find the problem and I even changed out my differential fluid..Anyone have suggestions on what it is?

well is it a clunk noise or a whine??? a whine when moving is a berring. theres a couple back there that go bad. now a clunk noise... my z28 has posi rearend in it, any time you haveboth wheels turning at the same time around a corner its going to make noise. mine clunks and viborates sometimes. do you have the y87 v6???

RE: misc. rear end noise
There really needs to be a thread for this topic. Its common, the pinion bearing is junk. Happened to my 99 and many others. Its cheaper to find a junkyard rearend and replace it. And the clunking and wining is possible. I had the same exact symptoms. What will happen soon is that your pinion seal will eventually start leaking really bad, then it will be junk. And blu, if your rearend is clunking, theres a problem. No rearend should clunk. This probably means that there is excessive slop in your carrier.
