m49 tranny rear housing, 94 3.4L
Alright folks, I've dropped all the fluids in the 5 speed tranny on my 3.4L camaro. Yes the drive train is already dropped, and all tranny supports are off. I have the forward tranny housing supported with a jack, and the rear housing seal is cracked open and draining. The interior arm console is removed, as well as the shifter arm and boot. The vent tube on the top of the rear housing is popped off as well. The speed sensor was removed last. Question...........why won't the rear housing just slide off? I know there is a bushing in there and that's the reason I'm sliding it off......to replace the output seal and the bushing (which I got from Timken). I noticed that on top of the tranny is a long channel that appears to house a shifting arm of some length. I also noticed that that particular shifting arm goes into the actual shifting housing, and is held in by a pin that is visible right on top of everything. The only thing is......where does that pin end up if I knock it down to release that arm...........and is that necessary to allow the housing to continue to slide? Help!
