Default LS1 swap going on

Before y'all jump my case, yes i know there is work involved, yes i know buy one with a v8 in it, yes dont start unless you know what you are doing, blah blah blah.

Now that we got that out of the way, we can get to the tech questions. Me and my girlfriend(she is in school to be a gm tech and working at a gm dealership) are swapping an ls1 into her 96 camaro v6. Its gonna be a track car pretty much with very little driving on the street. So needless to say we went with bmr k-member and control arms, susp, etc. Manual steering, no ac, no srs, etc etc.

Here are the questions i have though.

1)Abs-no need for it. Trying to figure out How to delete the abs setup. My forte is in mustangs(built and own an 89 mustang with a d1 doing 15 psi and over 450 hp) so i really dont know what is involved in deleting the abs system. The brake lines dont scare me none since i can bend and make my own. I belive i need an non-abs master cylinder and porptionaing valve but is there anything else?

2)wiring-any pin out diagrams for the dash harness? I know i need a different style cluster but i have been trying to figure out how to get the the new harness, which is from a 2000 camaro SS to match up to the 96 camaro dash harness. I know some of the wiring will be cut out do to the lack of airbags and abs.

3)trans-her car is an auto now. And since everybody knows fast cars are autos, we are sticking with the stock 4l auto that came with the new engine. I do have the trans crossmember that came with the new ls1. Should that suffice or do i need a different style trans crossmember?

Thats about all i have for now. No, i aint got a donor car but since this car is a gonna be tracked alot(125 shot for now untill she learns to drive it then it will have a d1 on it too) so instead of buying stock parts, i rather have them an upgrade.

Thanks y'all for the help. Before y'all question the mech skills we have, i built my mustang in the garage, former certified honda tech, currently work on gas turbines. I am building in the garage right now a 351w stroked to a 388 for the mustang. Only time the engine has left my house has been to goto the machine shop. My girlfriend like i said is working to become a GM tech, holds a couple ASE certs herself, and rebuilt the LS1 we have now herself. We are not lacking on the wrenching skills

And by the way, 351w>LSx!

I think your going to need the dash and dash harness from the 2000. The 2000 PCM will be looking for the body control modual the 96 does not have one. Also the gages themself are motor specific. Tach for a v6 will not work with a V8. The people I know that have don the conversions have replaced all the wiring to the LS harnesses. If you had a 96 LT1 then you could get away with using the 96 computer system.

96 and 97 are almost the same. 96 was the first year for OBDII, Because it was the first year there are some bugs in the PCM. A common upgrade to the 96 is to get a 97 PCM. Infact if you go to PCMsforless you can not use your 96 at all you have to buy a 97 PCM and they do not want your old 96 PCM as a core.

I own a 96 and a 93 so I am not an expert on it but I did look into the upgrade. I know to have everything work and use the LS1 PCM and to do it right you need to replace just about every wire under the dash. Heck one thread the guy even said he had to replace the door wiring harness on his 93 because the wiring was different on the years with the body control module. I think Massy has helped a guy to do the complete swap maybe he can chime in.

You confused me there. I was planning on using the 2000 ls1 PCM, not the v6 97 PCM. When i bought the swap it came complete with engine, harness, trans, and PCM.

Speaking of PCM, do you guys know any good tuners in the central florida area? I know Lamotta is the goto guy for mustangs but this is my first time venturing into the evil bowtie world. Hell i dont even know much about the optispark setup besides from what my girlfriend told me about them, expesive to replace when they go bad. What ever happened to the good ole days of a dist and some carb jetting!
