I don't have a Sway Bar?
So I was under my car yesterday changing the fuel filter and noticed that I don't have a sway bar. I have a place for one but it's not there. Is that bad? Did some cars come without it?

Are you talking front ot rear? I think all 4th gens have both. If you are runing without a front the car should handle like an old minivan. With out the one on the back it would handle like a new minivan.

According to the picture in the FSM, your car was equipped with both front & rear sway bars. If you going to install a rear bar, make sure it is matched to the front bar. Umatched bars can lead to excessive under steer or over steer. A too stiff rear bar, compared to the front, will cause excessive over steer (rear end breaks loose around hard corner).

Some remove front sways for the dragstrip, but a 3.4L -- I doubt it.
Pick up SS sways for the front and back -- you will like the improvement -- should find them cheap at junkyards or fleabay.
If you want some of the best sways out there, look at Strano 35/22 hollow sways.

If your 94 is the rusty mess at the back end that mine is, the sway bar could have fallen off. The whole underside of my car is clean except for the rear axle housing, the panhard rod, the sway bar and brackets, etc. I don't understand it.
I intend to yank the first clean rear that hits the U-Pull-It yard and install it in my car.

For the rear, why don't you pull yours, clean it and paint like they did at the link below if it bothers you that much -- wasting parts is pointless, especially since parts are being discontinued from GM now, so parts are becoming harder to find...

I'm not against cleaning up my 94's existing rear. After all, I pulled the engine support crossmember, had it sandblasted, used a die grinder to clean up the spot welds and other burrs, then POR 15ed it.
My axle housing is a much worse starting point though, being a deeply pitted, scaly mess. It looks like it had no paint at all on it ever. If all the junkyard rears look the same I probably *will*stick with what I have.

Hey Chaotic you even driven a 4 gen with a rear sway bar? If not your in for a nice surprise. It will feel like a different car, assuming you like to take turns like I do that is.
