I have a 97 camaro 3800 and I am trying to flush the heater core. I can not figure out how to remove the quick connects to free the hoses? Is there a trick yo this? It has a white coupler that slides over the end of the hose that says turn and pull. The plastic is broke so I cant tell which way to turn before pulling. Any ideas?? Can I disconnect the ends that go directly into the core at the firewall to flush?? Please advise

 

If the plastic that holds it inplace is broke and you pull it out you will need to replace the hose. It is just an O-ring seal so if its stuck it is due to crud.

 

The white piece is not completly broke off just cracked in many places. I am able to turn the hose but I don't know if I'm supposed to turn clockwise or counterclockwise. Is this white piece supposed to be fixed in one place? Mine slide up and down the hose and are not set in one place. I looked inthe Haynes manual and not a single mention of how to disconnect these. Do you know if these hoses are availible aftermarket or only dealer parts?

 

Do a search for heater hose's, there is not good news for ya,

Leave well enough alone is my advice. If you mess it up taking it off you have to buy the entire heater hose assembly from the dealer that is about $175. Hear is a link to an aftermarket site that has an alternative but it still aint cheap.

What if I cut the hoses, flush the core, and then splice the hoses back together with a plastic tee???

 

I bought the v6 fixit kit and they are GREAT! Definitely worth the money.

 

lefty loosy righty tighty. its kinda like opening a medicine bottle. you have to pressdown and pull up after turning them. they are a terrible design. i actually took two peices off another front wheel drive 3800 series 2 that plug into the heater hose bypass assembly and was able to use regular hoses after that. no issues so far and ive had that setup for about two years now.

 

And the first thing you learn in any tech class is never to say this... Clockwise is tight counter is loose. depending on your vantage point, right/left could be reversed.

Autozone here has a puller tool for these "quick connects" and a kit to thread them for re-install, and people who are going to work on the motors regularly. I would call and see if your location does too...
