Default Help car wouldn't stop accelerating

I was getting ready to get onto a busy on ramp so i punched the gas to get my spot in traffic and was going about 55.. i let off the gas to slow down and it wouldn't stop!!! Freaked me out! It got up to about 70 mph before I turned it off and tried using my foot to Pull the pedal back but nothing happened.. What could cause this? I had it towed to my house today and haven't looked at it yet

Throttle position sensor is probably worn out. What year is the car? What tranny?

Check your throttle cable at the throttle body. If it's frayed near the end, it can get wedged inside the casing as it's pulled back, and lock your t.b. in the open position. I know someone that happened to, and something like that can really cause a big mess in your pants!
