help with 97 3.8L tranny
I bought my 97 Camaro 3.8L used with 90k miles on it four years ago, it ran great and only had a few aestetical issues, but now it has reached 113k miles and the throttle response has gone to hell in a handbasket, when its wide open it will be sluggish when changing gears, and when it finally does switch to third gear the check engine light will come on. Basically I think it needs a new torque converter because now im in college and about two months ago I let my buddy drive it home, he dropped it into neutral, redlined it, and threw it into first... I nearly killed him when he did it, and since then it hasnt been the same. Its a 4 speed auto, if you have any idea what it might be please respond.
No joke.. it was a grinding noise that no car should ever make. Im still trying to get ahold of his boost controller and jack it up to about 60psi and watch his engine explode..
check your trans fuild levels and maybe change your filter if that doesnt help take it to a pro and get it checked out... may be a TQ or may need a new tranny the 4L60E in my car shifts hard into second but thats because it needs to be flushed i suppose...
I changed my tranny and engine oil with high mileage synthetic (about 1500 miles early for the engine) and replaced all the filters and there has been alot less hesitation and jumpiness. My only guess is the engine is spinning more easily. Time will only tell if its a temp fix. Thanks guys.
