I have a 92 RS 3.1. Was running fine up until two nights ago, when it started fine, idled fine ran fine for about 5 minutes then It stalled and wouldnt start again. I had no spark. Gas pressure was fine at the schrader valve at the top of the engine.

Next day, I went back to diagnose problem and tried to start the car and it started right up, idled fine and ran for about 2 minutes then died. She cranked strong but wouldnt turn over. I check the valve again for gas - pressure was fine - no spark at plugs, cap or coil.

I changed the ignition coil -no start. I changed the pickup coil, distrubutor cap an rotor. She started ran for a few minutes and died again. check for spark - no spark.

I dont have a code reader for ECU hook up to see if any codes are popping up. Has anyone encountered a similar problem and what was the problem? Any Help would be greatly appreciated !!!!!!

you dont need a code reader for that year....cant you flash the ecm?

 

It did it again tonight - started ran great for about 5 minutes like nothing was wrong, then bang she dies !!!

I dont know how to flash the ecm !!! How do you do that and what does flashing the ecm do?

This is a really weird problem.

 

itll give you a code by flashing your check engine light. if you have a haynes manual, it will give the procedure, usually under computer, or trouble codes

bascially you ground out 2 prongs on your datalink cable under the dash and turn the car to on but dont start it. the first code will flash 3 times

one blink, pause, two blinks this is code 12, meaning diagnostic mode

after that, any stored trouble codes will flash for example, four blinks, pause, 2 blinks would be code 42
