Hello i have the 3.8 v6 and lately its been maken a tap (sounds and feels like a valve tap + the car only has 107,XXX miles on it.) Was wondering if it could be something else. Or if it is a valve tap what would the best cure be.

 

i mean if its not too loud, it is what it is and dont worry bout it. if it sounds like its about to blow then take it in.

 

Take a thick bladed screwdriver, preferrably longer than 12" in overall length, and place the blade on the valve cover. Place the plastic handle in your ear and listen. The screwdriver amplifies the tap. Then place the blade on the body of an injector and listen. As your car gets older, you may start to notice the injector solenoids opening and closing. They can get pretty loud, and pretty aggrevating.

 

when an exhaust manifold gasket goes out it makes about the same tapping/ticking noise but you only hear it once as the engine goes around, and if its a single valve then it will only happen once again, you cant hear the ticking through a screw drivertho so u could rule one way or the other that way. is it more then one tick a revolution?
