So recently I've noticed that if I'm stepping on the gas and let go suddenly, my Camaro will sometimes make a popping noise and then it'll lurch forward. It also happens when I downshift into a higher RPM. My dad says its the transmission, but I don't think it is. It sounds like its coming from the exhaust. Is it possible that its my transmission, or is it more likely its my exhaust? It also happens more often when the weather outside is colder. It didn't do it at all during summer, if I remember correctly.

 

Anyone? I also noticed that when my car is started and its cold I hear this whining sound coming from the engine.. it sounds like its coming from the alternator. Would this have anything to do with the lurching forward and popping?

 

Well, the squeak could be many things, but the pop/lurch you mention sounds like a misfire/knock. If you can get it to do it while you're not driving, (not the lurch part, the noise.) try to find out exactly where it's coming from.
