Headers
Qustion for you guys that have pacesetter headers on your 3.8L. I am curious if you guys have any pictures of your setup? I recently have put on my new headers and I have had nothing but problems with my car misfiring from the spark plug wires. I have the msd multi angle boot wires to make the bends around the manifolds but have either broke or melted through. I am curious if what kind of wires you guys use and if you could post pictures of how the are setup. I appreciate the help ahead of time.

I don't have any pics but I just use the 90 deg wires and I buy the plug wire looms to control the wire positions. WIres should be Hi temp and atleast 3/8" away from the header. That is also something I double check several times the first month of driving and I check every time I change the oil. Just to make sure nothing has shifted. So far about 2 years and 45k no adjustments needed

That is one thing I dont have is looms. I think I deff should invest in some. Here is the reason for misfire below. This MSD wire is only about 2-3 weeks and has already pulled from its connection and the boot has ripped. I am not sure if I should repair myself or try to talk to MSD about it.

You cannot repair that correctly. The end is installed with a stamping type die on a 5-7 ton press. The tooling is very expensive. The end result is a crimp that is air tight. If air gets it the materials will corrode very quickly because of the high voltage and its effect on the material. Even if you got the crimp right there is no good way to repair the boot so it to will be air tight. The boot needs to be air tight to stop carbon tracking or “voltage leak”.
In the pic the wire does not really look melted it looks broken like it was removed by pulling on the wire? The metal connector looks torn. Since the wires are newer MSD might give you a break and just send you a wire but no matter what that wire will need replaced. Solder and electrical tape aint going to do it.
You may want to mention the end came off the wire but don’t send them a photo. The ends coming off wires is a sensitive area for wire manufactures because if they get lazy and let their tooling wear too much the result is wires not crimped tight enough. Since that indicated a quality problem they may be quick to just send you a new one and hope you forget about it.

Yea I ordered them from summitracing.com.
Gorn, the weird part to me is this how it looked when I went to check for the misfire. The boot itself was torn this bad I just tore it away a bit for picture sake but you could deff see that the metal connector was broken before I ever took the wire off. I guess bottom line is to talk to MSD and see what happens
