Also when I got the car I changed the oil immediately and again about 500 miles later. Its been about 2500miles and Im wondering if you guys have any ideas on a good oil to use?

Yes the filters are washable. Get the k&n cleaning kit and you'll be good to go. For oil I prefer to use amsoil. Some guys like royal purple and others like mobile one.

I use Amsoil too. I used to do the yearly change but recently switched to the six month interval.

Dopey me.

For the SLP filters, I would just take them off and vacuum some of the debris out. I try not to oil my filters too heavily when I do oil them.

Oil, meh. Really any oil works well in the 3.8 as our engine isn't very hard on oil. If you want to get paranoid about it, do a used oil analysis. I've done this a few times and found that my car can do about 7k miles oil changes with a little more life in the oil left but 9k was pushing it in terms of the oil being in good shape. The test itself isn't cheap so I do it every other oil change.

I've had good results with Mobil1, Pennzoil Platinum and even regular Pennzoil. Best results I've gotten though were Castrol 0w30. Oil held up like a champ to 9k and very low wear metals.
