Default Having issues...

Hey Everyone! Well I recently purchased a 1987 Camaro v6, 2.8 liter. This is a little story... I purchased it about a 3 hour drive from where I had to bring it back to. So me and my buddy went to get it. We finally got there and the car looked alright, So I started driving it, And I felt it lacked a little bit in power but didn't think much of it at first. So we get going back on the highway and I start hearing this slick knock, Or ping if you will underneath the hood... Still me being me I thought well nothing big. So we keep on going and it consistently is getting worse and worse until the car won't go above about 25 miles per hour and is knocking like hell... So then it finally stalls out and I pull it over to the side of the road, I thought well maybe the gas is low, I'll put some gas in it. Long behold it started but still knocked like crazy. So I found a gas station and parked it there because It just wasen't driveable plus in order to keep it from stalling out I had to keep it above about 3000rpm... I have owned a couple camaro's but I am at a loss for what the problem is?? I finally do have the car home now (After a 200$ tow job) And it is sitting. I put fuel injector cleaner in it, Supreme gas, All sorts of stuff but it doesn't work and still knocks like crazy! Although it will run by itself now without me pressing down on the gas. I thought it may have something to do with the fuel but it looks doubtful.. Can anyone give me any ideas on what the problem could be and how possibly to remedy it?? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Basicly get it into a shop and get it checked out...the knocking is deffinetly not good at all. If i knew what it was i would tell you but my suggestion would to be getting it checked in a diognastic.

Yea I am definately going to do that. I was going to attempt to fix it myself but I don't want to make it worse (If that's possible!! Lol) I am bringing the car in the shop friday. Wish me luck! Ps, Thanks for the reply deezil13! I kinda knew it was bad but I just needed some confirmation! My poor car

If its kinda like a dull, low tone knock dont be surprised if a shop says the bottom end of the motor is shot.

Well it is a pretty loud knock, I am thinking it may have something to do with the valves or perhaps the pushrods, Or maybe even the timing?? But I am not sure... Does anyone know if that could be part of the problem??

That is something you will either have to have a mechanic diagnose so he can hear the sound or put your car up to the computer so it can let us know how it feels.
