Default Harmonic Balancer Compatibility

I'm trying to find a a harmonic balancer for my 3.8. All I can find are ones for an Automatic transmission. These are different than the stock one that is on my car ( I have a Manual trans) . I was going to change it because the seal has worn a slight groove in it. It wasn't leaking before and I am going to change the crank seal.

Do they even make these friggin things anymore?? I can't find one anywhere!!

Nope. That one is different than the one that came off my ride. That looks exactly like the one that goes on Automatic Transmission versions. The only ones I can find online.

Basically mine is half that thickness.

thickness doesnt matter if the belt and crank sensors line up. here is what summit says will fit 2000 3.8 which shows same part number as yours, very spendy http://www.summitracing.com/search/y...onic-balancers

1. ^ I don't see a transmission designation for that one?
2. In 1997, GM made a design change on the lower pulley (call it a balancer if it makes you happy). They are interchangeable between years. I'd imagine there could be some early "transition" 1997 models out there.
3. Why would there be a difference between an automatic or manual trans? The crank and engine is the same.
4. Are you sure there's supposed to be a difference based on transmission, or are you seeing differences because of the design change?
5. Research is not showing a difference in lower pulley based on transmission. Where are you finding that info?

And from what I've found, others have used the new style on an older engine.
That could be one reason why the other pulley is no longer available?
Maybe ded can show a pic of his, for comparison.

The l26 fwd pulley will also work, since it is the same one the camaro switched to in 97/98-02
And the a4 and t5 use the same one
