is it vibrating, can u feel it as well as hear it? is a metal sound or a thumping, clicking or clanging? like a grinding missed 2nd gear kinda sound? any squeeling sounds? lol not the tires either can u explane the sound a little better?

Could it be a starter bendix hanging up and letting the teeth on the fiy wheel hit the outter edge?

well if u check all the things we have suggested, make sure the starter is tight, make sure the converter cover is not lose then take it off and see if the flexplate gears look like something has been rubbing on it, look at anywhere u can to see if something has fresh damage to it. if none of that then i would look to the tranny. there are gears in there, drive gears, and im sure they can go, ive never seen it happen and ive abused my share of cars.

check the transmission mount too. tranny can lift up and make the vibrations from the motor tranfer. make a thunk first then u feel the vibration and noise then will smooth it the trans drops back down. freaked me out the first time it happened to me. lol anyways if it ever happens...
