is it weird that my car seems to have more power at 87 oct instead of 93?

That is very possible, if the compression is not high enough, or spark timing set to take advantage of the higher octane. Your car is factory optimized for regular.

You get more of a complete burn. As long as your car does not knock where the computer needs to adjust timing all the time you can use the lower octanes.

A former employer of mine would coast into the parking lot of the shop in his super beetleand yell "Michael, I know you have an empty Dr. pepper bottle around here. Pump 16 ounces of laquer thinner into my tank so I can get to the gas station".

One is not "better" than the other, but they are different. As long as the car is basically stock, you need to use the one that the car was designed for.
