While on the topic of driving efficiently.

What would you say is the most economical speed to cruise at for long durations of time on the highway? Assume there is no wind and the road is flat.

Some clarification, I know how to drive a standard, my shifting/driving style isn't the reason for 15 MPG. And for those of you saying that 15 is normal.... what? 15 is LOWER than EPA's rating, and we all know that EPA ratings are very inaccurate. The general average for our cars is like 20-25 based on what i've been able to find via search.

Quite frankly, something is either wrong with your driving, calculations, or your car. If your getting 15 then something is wrong. These 3.8s can get amazing gas mileage for their size, I think the most Ive seen in the city was 25.xx, but it was 25. It needs to be running properly and you need to be responsible. Your right foot is one of the biggest variables when it comes to gas mileage.

My '95 3.4 getsbetter milage at 70mph (2100rpm) with 87 octane than 89. Brand new tune up and synthetic juices. Save some money and run lower octane.

Yes, but you havent described any problem other than bad gas mileage, have you changed your fuel filter? That could be part of it, or dirty injectors, stuff like that.

Fine then, if you really did all that, then the only problem left really is YOU. Either your calculations are wrong, or your lying about how you drive.

120 / 8 = 15 - pretty hard to calculate that wrong... and if i was driving uneconomically, i wouldn't be complaining about ****ty mileage now would I.... I've been driving standard for over 10 years now, i can assure you its not my driving style.

What tire size are you running? The tires on my car have the wrong sidewall height, which means the odometer is off, therefore the actual gas mileage is differant than your calculations. Just another idea. I'm also curious if the previous owner changed the gears in the rear end. If they did, then that is another possible source. Try to contact the person you bought it from, if that's possible.
