i know this has been coverd before somewhere, but i couldnt find it again. how can i increase my mpg. i am only getting about 15 city and 17 highway. i have new plugs, wires. egr just replaced. new K&N cold air filter, new fuel filter...not really sure what to check now. it is currently in the shop for some minor maintenance. any suggestions?

camaros are horable on gas .

 

it has about 153000 miles. i keep the changed every 3000. given the high mileage i drive it like an old man. it needs to last me 6 more months til i graduate college. not sure what else to with it. considering selling it and going back to my old truck for a few months.

 

Use a higher octane of gas if you use the cheap stuff you get worse gas milage and its worse for your engine i'd say use 89 octane thats what i use in my 3.8 L andi'm getting 24 mpg. when i used the 85 i got around 16 mpg.

 

If by 85 octane you mean E85, which is 85% ethanol, is probably bad for your engine because it was not designed for it. Alcohol has a pretty high octane value but contains much less energy per gallon than gasoline, and gives much less mileage.
Other causes of poor mileage besides E85:
Check for trouble codes first
1) Rich A/F ratiodue to excessive fuel pressure, leaky injectors, dirty air filter
2) Misfires, usually due to ignition problems
3) Dead or lazy O2 sensors, should be replaced every 60K miles
4) Bad coolant sensor, telling PCM that engine is cold when it is really hot
5) Bad MAF sensor
6) Bad MAP sensor
7) BAD intake air temp sensor
8) Clogged exhaust
9) Low tire pressure
10) Driving with one foot on the brakes, an the other on the gas pedal
12) Stashing all your belongings in the car
13) Shoes with lead soles

 

Oh the E-85 ... Its fun to design the 3.4 for E-85,lol... If you have time & $$$ , other wise don't count it out just yet... Anyway I have 2 cars & atruck so if this design suck its just an 3.4 i got for free = - ). Live alittle

 

There's no way I can possibly believe that. Octane rating has nothing do to with gas milage and more power. The more octane, the more complete burn under high compression. The V6 engines were designed for low grade fuel. Any higher and you actually stop burning all of the octane as a result of low compression. I have a 1969 Nova running high compression pistons and I every so often use mid grade fuel.

 

I average 27.5 in mine. Nothing special, just regular maintanance. Oil changed every 4000 miles, plugs once a year. Seafoam in the tank once a month. 168k on the clock. CC set @ 70 with the A/C on.

Try the full seafoam thing and see if it gats better.

i seafoamed it about 2 months ago. tires get balanced and rotated every 5000 miles (free from the place i bought them), O2 sensors only have about 8000miles. new cat and muffler. new air filter. new plugs and wires. oil changed every 3000. new fuel filter. i run the low grade gas (83 octane i think) just had it checked out and no misfires. everthing seems to be in order. maybe ill try the mid-grade gas for a tank and seafoam it again...
