Default Fuel issue(s) - where do I begin?

Have been dealing with fuel related issues since 2010. This is a 1993 with 80K miles, occaisional driver.

Had fuel pump replaced because of intermittent no-start - remember this? Intermittent no-start continued. Found lose wire in relay, replaced wire.

The car has spent so much time sitting in the mechanics parking lot that I wonder if others things are going awry because of lack of use or other parts deteriotating.

Current issues:

Car used to fire-up first time you turned the key - now it takes three tries.

Drove to work last week when morning when termperature was below freezing - engine rpms were oscillating well after the engine warmed up. Also stalled several times.

Fuel system doesn't seem to compensate - for example; traveling at highway speed, exit highway and come to stop sign . . . engine seems to surge - like the idle is too high.

Drive the car home after work, attempt to restart after 90 minutes - difficult to start and is starved for fuel.

Spoke with a different and very competent independent mechanic this morning and he isn't interested in working on it. Current mechanic seems to be losing interest.

Does it seem likely that all of these symptons could be caused by the same malfunction? How do you sort this out if there is more than one problem - where do you begin?

first pick up a repair manual for your model and year. this is a good site for some info which is for the lt1, but some info will be the same for yours, im assuming 3.4. 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids you will want to test the fuel pressure number 33 on the list here 4th Gen LT1 F-Body Tech Aids you will want to check the computer for any trouble codes. number 23 on the same list as fuel pressure test. once you get the car codes flashed let us know what code numbers come up if any. could be the injectors just need cleaned and flow tested. could be something simpler like a fuel filter but im thinking the shop you have taken it to has already done that.

X2 on fuel pressure check. If that fuel pump is not placed the same way it came out you can have issues as mentioned

Thanks for all of the above info.

Purchased a repair manual on ebay - cheap!

After replacing the fuel pump and experiencing the same problems - the mechanic has become reluctant to throw more parts at the car. Time for me to become more hands on with this :-/

After Googling the symptoms I discovered other threads here that point to the fuel pressure regulator. The EGR may be suspect as well - but one part at a time I suppose.

There are tamperproof style (torx with a center pin) screws that secure the fuel pressure regulator. The screws toward the rear of the engine compartment are under the sheet metal that extends forward of the windshield. So they make a tamperproof screw driver tips that is inserted into a socket? What is good source for quality driver tips for the non-professional?
