First mod to the Camaro.
Just decided to do my first mod after having the car for a month or two. It is a 180* Fail-Safe Thermostat. Does anybody think this was a good choice for a first mod or a bad idea?
I was looking at Cold Air Intakes but their are so many and I was going to wait till Spring to do that so snow doesn't get all over the filter... I heard the 180* will keep the engine a little cooler and better for the engine? what CAI do you suggest?

180 deg stat will keep your car cooler the only problem is a hotter motor runs more efficient. The benifit of having a 180 deg stat is that you can run more advanced timing. Ff you do not get your car tuned for it it is not going to make your car any faster.
Fail safe part is worth it tho

I would wait until you get an intake, catback, and some headers. That will be to optimal time to tune because you won't see much improvement with only a catback because your exhaust is still being choked by the stock manifolds.
You may get some CEL issues. If you get cold in the winter here you will see the CEL and the code will have something like unable to reach operating temp, or engine temp too low. This is really not a big issue but it could leave the engine in open loop which will harm your effeciency and performance.
You can have the computer tuned to accept a 180º stat but you will want to finish modding your engine before you drop $300 or more to tune the engine.

solomon charges 30 bucks for one retune,,, i think.
