Default exhaust question

ok here is the exaust system i am looking at buying
cat back
headers

does that cat-back system include a catlytic converter or do i also need to buy one of those? i noticed it said 3.4L V6 with Flanged Catalytic Converter in the description...i wasnt sure if that meant that it came with on or i had to have one already.

are those good prices for everything or is there somewhere that sells them cheaper? will the headers fit with that flowmaster sytem? thanks for any help.

first....if you are going to put headers on I would go with BBK Headers. You can one or two high-flow cats..they run about $200. Are you going to run true duels?..Y-pipe?...Xpipe?.....the flowmaster 40 series is ok..but once you go into higher rpms it's sounds ricey ( import sound )...now..on V6's the magnaflow systems sound the best.

yea this is not a true dual system...i cant find a true duel for the 3.4 v6...and that series is an 80 series flowmaster...will that sound ricey? yea i would get the magnaflows but they are $150 extra and i dont have a whole lot of money to spend right now...im looking at getting a magnaflow high flow cat...all of this will fit together wont they? i live in texas will i still pass emissions?

I have a 94 3.4L I removed my cat because here in NY anything under a 95 doesn't have to be on a Dyno. I have a flowmaster 80series with the pipes bent behind my rear tires with a square tips and I have to say it's sounds like a beast. Everyone swears I have an V8. Doesn't sound to ricey at higher rpms either. You can get any brand of highflow cat....I think flowmasters makes one also, You should be able to pass emissions as long as you have a cat and your O2 sensors are working properly.

Or you can do what I did. Go to autozone and buy some of the exhaust piping they sell there, take your muffler off, and build the pipe to come out from where you had the muffler, get a nice big tip and omg wow.

I spent about $32 and it sounds like a magnaflow but deeper and louder. The only downfall to this is that you may or may not have the high rpm ricer sound (which some flowmasters get anyway). If you get a nice big, long tip it'll dampen the sound and will sound ok. But as far as low rpms...damn. Sounds really really good. I'll see if I can tape it and post it on youtube or something...

What about on a 3.8 v6?? if i just ran pipe straight back from where the muffler should be, would it still have a good sound down low, but not to ricey at high RPM's?? Will this sacrifice or improve any power??

Running straight pipes on a V6 is a bad idea...It will sound like garbage at higher rpms. Now on a V8 with headers and no muffler that's when it sounds like a beast. And to answer your other question your muffler has to be welded. So you have to take it to a shop have them cut if off.

The stock V6 muffler isnt welded. I unbolted mine. Theres just 2 bolts and its pretty easy, taking about 5 min to undo. Low rpms without the muffler sounds really ****in goood. Idle to 4K...

Your high rpms (4.5K- redline) may or maynot sound bad. I used some bigger pipe(3") right after the muffler to get some resonance with an 18inch long, 3 inch wide tip. My high rpms just sound drone together rather then single fires because of the stock headers on my engine. Power increase? YES! Small amount but I can tell I got some. Your tourqe curve will be more smooth as well.

But as far as the bad sounding high rpms...Why push your car so hard? Keep in mind you have a V6 and its built for gas mileage and not power. I hardly ever take my camaro past 3K rpms and so I fool a lot of people with my car and what it has in it.

I'll be posting a link to YOUTUBE with a clip of my exhaust soon.

Here is a small sample of what my car sounds like with no muffler. My friend was drunk when he edited it so I'll get a nice new one here soon. Also, the quality is bad. So hears a sample...
