Default Exhaust

I am getting some ideas on what exhaust I should put on my 96 3.8. First question, can you put true duals on the v6 camaro? Second question, what do you think sounds best on a camaro? I am planning on running headers too.

You can run true duals, but you would have to custom up a lot of it; and I don't believe it's worth it. A good catback, headers, cat and y pipe would probably net you near 30-40 hp. I have seen write ups of people comparing performance gains by using a X pipe versus a y pipe and the gains in hp have been minimal, if that. I believe one of the more in depth writeups was on a Mustang forum, in which the guy provided dyno results of his car with a y pipe and a x pipe.

Thanks for the information failed. I remember reading about that a long time ago. What cat-back system do you prefer for power gain and a deep tone?

As for a deep tone I've heard 3.8's with Magnaflow catbacks and they sound almost like a V8. I'm not quite sure about the horsepower gains, but I'm planning on buying a magnaflow for my car.

Yea, I was thinking about magnaflows or flowmasters. But I am still trying to decide.

I'm still trying to fix mine up and it is still not running yet lol. But when it was running the worn out stock muffler or iunno whats on it, actually sounded decent.

I have a Magnaflow catback and SLP CAI, sounds good, but you still know it ain't a V8. magnaflow's exhaust is supposed to be pretty damn good in terms of flow and performance, Flowmasters has a bad reputation for not giving much in terms of performance gain. You need to hit up youtube and listen to different setups; I personally never liked the Flowmaster sound. They sounded ok at idle but they all seemed to whine out more than other brands.

As some of the other posters have said, flowmasters give off a whiney sound and they aren't really good if you're looking for performance gains. Another one you could consider is a Borla Catback.

Yea I know it won't be an v8. It's going to be a daily driver but with a little pep kinda thing. My next project will be a z28.
