RE: erasing obd codes from the memory
From what I know you connot clear codes by disconecting the battery. You can only clear them through the clear codes command option on MODIS or GM TECH 1,or 50 key cycles.

A battery disconnect works, as does any scan tool or code display that has an erase function. OTC's line of OBD-II products work, as do Snapon's MT2500 and Modis, and GM's Tech 1 and 2. Even the small, $60.00 reader at Autozone erases the code. The best way, however, is to have the problem fixed so the code won't be displayed anymore :P

RE: erasing obd codes from the memory
There is a set of codes that cannot be deleted from memory without a PCM reflash. These are codes related to emission problems. The MIL can be turned off by clearing the code, but these codes willremain in memory until a certain number of drive cyles are completed. If the trouble does not come back during that number of drive cycles, the codes will be automatically cleared. If the car is inspected while these codes are in memory it will show up as not ready for inspection, and you will need to make another trip and pay again. The drive cycle type and number depend on the car & engine combo.
