Engine is junk now
Took the wifes '95 3.4L to the shop to check out a little water problem...we had water coming out the exhaust fater than I could put it in at the radiator. Turns out the engine is junk now. Head gaskets blown, cylinder walls pitted. I was able to pick up a replacement engine and am in the process of pulling the old one. Got the radiator and A/C coil out , all the accessories out and am about to go out and work on the back side of the engine and drive train. My question is.....where can I hook a hoist up to pull the engine/transmission out in one piece? Is it better to unbolt the transmission and leave it in the car? Do Ineed to remove the upper intake manifold to pull the engine out of the car? How do I get the left hand engine mount around the steering shaft and knuckle, or should I disconnect it at the block rather than the frame?
From what I've been told, is if you're going to remove it from the top, leave the tranny in the car. The upper intake manifold will have to come off first also. If you remove it through the bottom, you can leave the engine and tranny together.
