Default Engine Code p1406

My service engine light came on today, and P1406 Code came up. I googled it and either Bad EGR Valve or O2 sensorcame up. I would like to narrow it down to one or the other, so if anyone knows that would be awesome.

I have it tuned so it doesn't come on, it's unplugged, and I tuned it so the codes don't come on.

Isn't it supposed to improve fuel economy at the cost of a slight decrease in performance?

actually the EGR valve is supposed to save gas...but thats about it. But if you take it off some people think it adds power.

(very arguable kinda like the octane thread. lol.)
