Default Difference Between 98' and 99' v6 Air Intake

Hey everyone, I have a 1998 v6 Camaro, shes a beauty i just really want to increase my performance before i take her out next spring. K&N makes an air intake system for the 1999-02 v6 camaros, but for some reason it does not list it under the 98'. will the 99' v6 camaro intake work on the 98'? also, I've read alot about the SLP air box and intake combo, is that a better idea?

I might be wrong, but I think the the throttle body mount was still angled on the '98s whereas from '99-up they were straight. If I'm correct, that would by why the CAI won't work.

You can see the difference easily by the different intakes HERE:

Notice the '98 has a downward curve?

Yup, 99 they went to the straight TB instead of the slight angle. I don't like K&N personally, they're expensive, must be maintained (cleaned), and I stand religiously by the more air you let in, the more dirt that can get in too. I don't care about what numbers they might put out, the possible dirt part is what scares me. I guess that wouldn't matter if the car was hardly driven though. Some people swear by K&N and that's fine, but I don't. The SLP CAI is relatively inexpensive comparatively and still does the same job. But noticeable gains won't be 'noticeable' unless a full exhaust system is in place. Just one small piece to the puzzle usually isn't enough to notice much difference.

^ That's just not true, I noticed a good SOTP boost at highway speeds with just the SLP CAI added separate from anything else. Obviously you will get more when you add a better exhaust as well...

I didn't add my SLP until after my Magnaflow and Pacesetters went on, so I don't know what kind of 'boost' you get just with that. I'm just saying you really get the full effect of extra power with the whole system in place. I noticed a smoothness, not really any power gain when the SLP was added. I never had a chance to run any numbers on what a full exhaust system (ok, my system) added, so I don't know exact numbers to what it actually was at before the rebuild.

Man, I sure could have worded my answer better. I kind of sounded a bit on the dysfunctional side in my description. lol

I have a '96 3.8 with a cam and better exhaust. When I added a SLP CAI, I was thoroughly disappointed in it. I'm sure it was better for the engine than stock, but not in any comparative way to the cost. Maybe I just had a bad experience as opposed to anybody else, but it still left me put off.

Well your SLP CAI is a MUCH different design from the 98-02 version... I added the SLP CAI (same design you have) to my old '95 3.4L, but was not impressed either...

Which cam did you pick? Have dyno results of the cam improvement by chance?

Liberty, your butt dyno is broken. Go recalibrate. Don't let the idea of more power trick you into thinking you feel it.

I need to buy my own dyno for my garage to prove my butt dyno calibration!
