the car is 2000 model, the hoses seem fine, to me the leak seems like its coming from the engine, it looks like it drips from the bottom near the oil pan, every now and then when the coolant is low the engine will start smoking

Your car is leaking antifreeze, and you are wondering why you have to keep refilling the radiator? On the 3.8 there is a little plastic elbow on the intake manifold. It runs from the manifold to the tensioner pulley assembly. It is notorious for leaking. That is where I would look next.
