Default Convertible affecting speed

Ok so I was debating with a friend the other day. He said that convertibles, t-tops, and targa tops wont be as quick as a hard top. And seeing that I have t-tops I wanted to find out if this was true. Will my time be affected by that?

I don't see why with T tops.. wind resistance is the same, and the weight difference couldn't be much. Convertible.. the wind resistance and weight might be different.. but I'm not sure.

yes it is true. If you race have your T-tops on. Because the will will catch and from the top and push against your hatch back . Plus its not good airflow it will slow you down when you race. Not by much though

Weight wise you're talking of only a couple pounds difference between the T-top and hard top. The couple of square feet of glass weighs more then sheetmetal.

The rag top on the other hand weighs at least 500 lbs more. Besides the hardware for the top, you have extra bracing to make up for the loss of stiffness from removing the top.

Well said, friend. A convertible will always be slower than a hard top coupe. The windshield posts alone are extra heavy duty to substitue the mass lost in the hardtop structure. T-tops, however, I'm not so sure. I'd sacrafice a few MPHs for the sharp looks of a t-top.

You won't even be able to notice the difference. It's so minimal.
