So I've seen a brand of cold air intakes called "chromeintakes" on eBay that should fit my 2000 Camaro V6 5-speed. They have an option to get the CAI with a K&N cone air filter. But, I'm not sure of the quality and reliability.
Has anyone here had experience with one? What kind of results have you had? Are there any "gotchas" to be aware of?
Thanks in advance.

Don't bother with those. Exposed cone filters tend to suck up the hot air being thrown by the engine, and that metal intake tube is only serving to soak in the heat. The only intakes worth getting really are the SLP or Fast Toys, and even those won't do that much for you. Best thing to do is the couple free mods, debaffle the lid and cut out the bottom of the air box.

i know the 3.8s are a little differently set up, but i have an aluminum cold air intake that runs to in front of my front tire in the front bumper, or inside the fender. (whichever way you want to take it) the cone sits down in there so it doesnt get any hot air from the engine at all. its actually relatively colder than even outside air. the aluminum piping is cold to the touch even after driving as well. Ive never had it soak up any of the heat from the engine.
Thats just my personal experience.

I wouldn't mind a few extra HP and ft-lbs, but I'd also like to pick up a couple MPG's along the way if I can.

honestly cold air intakes dont make that big of a noticeable difference. They freshen up the look of the engine bay, they have a nice sound to them with camaros, and they smooth up the air flow a little and keep temps down slightly. If anything, it just helps the engine breathe better.
For instance, a cold air intake to a car, is like you after you blew your nose. You still breathe the same, and you still function the same, its just easier.
