Default Cat Removed by Former Owner

Hi all. I'm new here and new to Camaro's. I just picked up a 98 V6. Noticed the dummy light was on and pulled her into the local shop. The Cat has been professionally removed and replaced with a straight pipe (welded). She's still running the stock muffler though. Suggestions on what to do would be great. Thanks for the help and time.

If you don't need the CAT for emissions reasons then don't worry. What was the ses light for?

The SES is on because the cat is missing and the downstream O2 sensors see that as a failed cat. You need to replace the downstream O2's with simulators, or have the PCm tuned to delete them.

Very cool guys. Thanks for the help. I'm a Harley mechanic, never have been a car guy.....guess I have to learn a little later in life. I wasn't sure about the dummy sensors on cars, I've installed a ton on bikes.

Just don't use the dummy sensors in place of the upstream sensors, otherwise the engine will run poorly.
