I have a 2000 Camaro 3.8 liter. It died getting onto the freeway. I pulled over and tried to start it, it would start up but then die right away. I noticed the smell of fuel and white smoke coming out the tail pipe. I got it home, checked the fuel pressure and it stayed at 44psi. Has a full tank of gas. Just changed the oil a couple weeks ago. Pulled the spark plugs, they were black and smelled like fuel. Replaced the plugs and wires. It started and ran fine for about 45 seconds then started to die down and would rev up on its own to keep itself running, then black smoke came out of the exhaust. I turned it off. You could smell fuel from the exhaust. Tried to start it again but it would only crank and not start. I noticed the reduced engine power light is on. Has anyone run into this problem?

 

From what I have read about that, it mainly has to do with the Drive By Wire (DBW) throttle body. Is the Service Engine Soon light lit?

 

Yeah, the service engine light is on and reduced engine power light is on. I took it to the dealership and the said I need a new throttle body. It's giving them a P1120A code. They want to charge $860 to install. The part alone cost $630. If i could find one for cheaper, I could install it myself. Do you know where I can find one cause the one's online have a cable running the throttle but mine is all electrical.

 

You might try ebay for a used one, but www.rockauto.com has is listed for about $200 cheaper than the dealer. The one it shows is the electric one.

hello, i have a 2000 v6 3.8 chevy camaro that the check ingine light is on and so is the reduced engine power light.my car wont start it cranks but wont start ...i took it and got it checked and they told me it was the throttle acctuator control mod...so i replaced that had the codes reset it ran for about an hour and the same thing as what happend to this guy is happening to me i realy need some help here..can someone help me out?

Are you saying you replaced the whole throttle body unit?

 

i dont need a new car i just need to know how to fix mine.....apreciate the notice though.i dont wanna change the throttle body unless i have to the code said tac modual and i changed that and still no dice..this car is pissing me off..any suggestions

i didnt replace the whole throttle body "yet", i dont want to unless i need to but replacing the tac did not help even though the code said that was the problem...
