Camaro threw a rod!
98 v6 camaro.... Car started knocking found out it Threw a rod .... What should I do??? Get a brand new motor??($2000 +) or a used one(less than $1000) or just get my motor repaired????

it would depend on how much money you want/can spend, what you want out of the motor and how long you wish to keep the car. if you need the car right away then a used motor would be the way to go. that is unless you can get a rebuilt short block in short order.

To throw a rod usually means a destroyed connecting rod, and badly damaged crankshaft, and lots of metal powder distributed through the engine. If that's the case with your car the engine is done.
The 3800 for a 98 should be very easy to find in a boneyard since it was used a bunch of years and, from what I've read on this forum, you can even use the FWD long block. That means literally millions of potential donors. I'd go used.

Well I was going to send you a link to the thread I made about this engine but some one already did. $2000 is what most part stores want for a rebuilt engine, and wrecking yards here want $400-$700. A few gaskets and some long hours later and you will be up and running again.

It cost me around $1500, can't remember exactly, to have an engine rebuilt last fall for the 98. That was with me taking it out and putting it back in the vehicle.
Last spring, I bought an engine from a salvage yard for $300 to go in the 96 but was not sure the mileage, only promised a replacement if it didn't run. So far we have put a little over 11k on that engine but had to do a head gasket job about 3 months after install.
I bought a complete running 97 camaro with front end damage, 85k on it for $500 so take your time and look around.
