I have never heard of anyone using the newer PCM. Most of us just use the original PCM due to the complication for getting everything else working. Your on your own with this one. Do you have any details on what it took to use the newer PCM?

You did not do the CAM? I would expect to get some boost from a tune with the CAI and free flowing exhaust but since you have to do the dyno tune I would wait until I was done moding the motor.

i think he is talking about pcmforless and used the stock pcm with a 09 3.8
if i change his wording a little it makes more sence.

you are correct in that I am not a good writer

"i think he is talking about pcmforless and used the stock pcm with a 09 3.8 if i change his wording a little it makes more sence" PCMforLess said since it is a CAM change and the heads from a 2009 are different from a Series II they had no experience in making this tune.

In regards to a dyno tune my Son did one to his honda after he had put higher flowing injectors and a bigger fuel pump. Do you think this needs to happen with my car.

After putting way more money then expected in my car I am having some issues with paying 275 - 400 for a tune at this point

By the Way your guys information and attitude are fantastic

lol, the money we spend on things we love. it looks like the only way your gona get the most outa the motor is dyno. either that or get a cable and program like tunercat to tune yourself. im not so good at the computer stuff so i stay away from that.

I think the dyno tune would be worth it once everything is done the way you want it for the same reason PCMforless does not want to sell you a tune. At this point your car is a "one off". The factory tune is series 2 motor is working ok now so there is no hurry. Your O2 sensors will make enough adjustment to keep the fuel mixture in check. The main reason for the tune is to max out your timing curve and to get the throttle response better. Even if you have to put it off till next summer, no biggy. I would suggest installing 180 deg stat right before you get it tuned.

If you used your Camaro intake sensors, computer and accessories then your engine is still basically the same as what is in your car. Don't get parts for a 2009 except for the spark plugs ( due to reach and threads). I did a lot of research on this swap before I did mine and I kept as much of the engine from my blown engine as I could to minimize any troubles. My Sarah received an engine from a 2002 Bonneville but you would not have known it unless I told you.

Yes the only 2009 parts that I have used so far are the plugs.
Everything else is basically 1997 vintage.
Since the rebuild I have had to change water pump and one 02 sensor as well as a great tume from GMTuners. If and when the alternator fries I will be looking to change over to the 2009 setup. It apears to be a bolt on replacement and if it works will get rid of the twist and turn heater core hoses.
So far the gas mileage has been 17.5 to 19.5 city before the tune. Will have to see in a week or so the next mileage reading.

Did do a VATS delete the worked out well with one resistor.

Just make sure the new alternator brackets are going to be comparable with the rest of the accessories.
