Blown Engine need some advise
Purchased a 1997 T Top v6 Camaro and am tryin to make a good driver out of it with some extras
This weekend it seems that I either spun a cam bearing or a rod bearing and now it is time for a new motor
The options are take out and rebuild my existing motor or get a used one out of a later model and reuse the heads intake etc.
My questions are cost versus uppgrades if I take a late model engine such as a 2006 gran prix with 35000 miles will I have any issues if I do a cam swap and add headers versus a typical rebuild of my existing motor.
Also is there any specific reasons the new heads and intake cant be used ?
Been reading some of the posts for awhile and am now lookin for some opinions form you guys that have faced these issues in the past.

Rebuilding you higher miles motor after you have had a internal failure is going to be very expensive. Most likely 4 to 6 times what it would cost to install a used motor amd atleast twice what it would cost to buy a low miles used motor and rebuild that.
If you start modding the engine just plan on a mail order tune or a local dyno tune. You can use the newer heads, they have larger valves all you need is your intake. Did you read the sticky here in the V6 section about the 3800 swaps?

Gorn and Craby yes I have been lurking awhile and just read Sofie posting again today. The v6 engine swap says to strip the new engine down to a short block and then use the original parts to make it back to a complete motor is how I read it. Will I be able to use headers on a new engine in the old car. Am looking at using pacesetters?

You can tear it down to a short block but you do not need to. It is a good idea to upgrade the head gaskets. You need to strip it to a long block. This is the thread you want to go by: https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...nt-info-57568/
