Default Bad trend...

Well my motor ate the dust and I think my transmission is in the process. I know a lot about an engine but not much about my transmission or driveline... I know how they work, but I don't know what would cause problems in one and how to diagnose certain parts...

So I'm here to ask you guys... I will back up, and when I shift back into overdrive, sometimes, I'm stuck taking off in 3rd gear unless I shift up to myself in the auto. Even then, the only two gears that work when this happens are 2nd and 3rd. It will not shift into 4th at all, so no overdrive... And 1st doesn't work either. It seems to work after I turn the car off for a period of time and mess with the shifter for a minute. Any of you guys know whats going on here and am I gonna be throwing around another $1000 to keep my car in good shape?

Have you checked your fluid level? I've seen a handfull of transmissions do a similar thing when low on fluid. Also, how's your shift linkage? If it's binding it may only be letting you in those gears.

Why don't you try and help instead of being an *******?
He asked how to fix it, yes he plays hard, he didn't ask how it happened, just how to fix it.

I'm too old school for this, I was going to say something about a vacuum modulator, but these trannys are shifted by the computer right? It might just be going sour on ya Kal. Maybe add some of that slick 50 auto trans additive to it? I just don't know squat about new trannys. Gimme a Turbo 400, and I'm there
