accelerating problems
my 2000 3.8 manual tranny starts fine, beside a hum coming from somewhere then the hum goes away...idles fine but then when i press the accelerator it hesitates hard and the tach(engine) hardly revs up to 2500-3000 then basically cuts out idles down real hard and rough then after a few it idles back up to normal idle and runs great at idle...just no power when accelerate all this done in nuetral...i'm told maybe an idle air control valve???? i'm going to get this part tomm..any sugestions as to what may be causing this, as i'm new to cars with all this electrical mess and sensors...any help would be greatly apprecited..thanks in advance

RE: accelerating problems
Sounds like it's either running rich or something is constricting the exhaust like a bad catalytic converter. Hard to be certain. What happens when you slowly ramp up power vs. fluttering the pedal. Does it happen when the engine is cold as well as when it's up to temp? Does the Service engine soon light come on? Does the exhaust smell "fuelly"? Could be the oxygen sensor? There's a few hints don't know if it'll help.More info/testing is needed I think.
Thanks,
Tom

RE: accelerating problems
thanks the ses light is on and flashes when accelerating hard at times, i had codes ran for the light before it messed up.. had a p0420 catalyst efficenciy low bank one... i believ it hAS new o2 sensors...it also had a code of misfire cyl 6 so i changed some of the plug wires and may of been dumping fuel into the cat and totally fried it??? but i've got it back to the correct firing order.i'll check out the exhuast smell... and it revs up slow and fast but not much past 2500-3000...all of this is done while sitting in N...it also does not matter cold vs. hot[/align]thanks
