99 v6 stopped running...
My car stopped running the other day after it shut off going down the road. I noticed the RPMs would fluctuate a little and the power wasn't all there. After the car shut off it wouldn't start for several hours after it cooled off. I thought it might have been a clogged or bad catalytic converter but after i removed it i realized that wasnt the problem. The only code that i am pulling is P1514. the car will idle but the RPMsare all over the place and it is missing here and there as well. I noticed it could be a bad ECU or a bad TPS. Could it possibly be a cam sensor? Thanks to all serious replies. I am also looking for a place i can buy a Throttle body or ECU as well. These parts are not inventoried at any local automotive stores.

Have you checked the fuel pressure or pulled the plugs or Checked the IAC or the MAP sensor? From your post it sounds like your standing 10 feet away and just throwing parts at it.

When you ask for help you really should list everything you have done. Assuming plugs and coils are OK because they are a year old is a mistake. They can be bad new and they can last 20 years and they can fail anywhere in between. I use to make a living doing warranty repair and a lot of the work I did was on car with less then 1000 miles on them. Failing fuel pump can act almost exactly like a plugged Cat.
Your Code is indicating an air flow problem. Could be as simple as a bad ATS or an IAC. How does the car run if you disconnect the MAF sensor?
You fuel injection system is capable of adjusting the fuel mapping two different ways. One is called Speed density, this uses MAP, and ATS & TPS to adjust the fuel mapping the second way is the MAF sensor. What your PCM is telling you is that those two different sources are not matching up. With this code the MAF is reading high so it is most likely not the MAF sensor. (I said most likely) So you could have a vacuum leak but it would mean that air passing the MAF sensor was entering the motor without any TPS or IAC activity. This is why it is called throttle body eff. But most likely you have a MAP sensor that is show 11 In of vacuum in a motor with 14 inches or a ATS that is show 70 degs when it 40. Sure it is possible that your PCM took a crap but that is the most expensive and also very unlikely issue. It is very uncommon but a MAF sensor wire can lose its resistance which could cause a high reading. This can be caused by some containation. If you disconnect the MAF and the car runs better that is a good indicator. You could also try cleaning the MAF. Find guide online, it is real easy to screw up and do not use carb cleaner. Carb cleaner has a lubricant in it that will leave a residue, use electrical connector cleaner.
Just a FYI: they are not called ECUs or ECMs anymore. In 1994 when they started controlling the transmissions they became PCMs (power train control modules) Not a big deal just thought I would let you know.
