If you have a '99, it is a 3.8. Possible things to look at are plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, and maybe run some injector cleaner. Does have the check engine light on?

It could be a head gasket, but before you go spending a lot of money, make sure your cat isn't clogged up. The symptom you describe could be caused by a restricted exhaust. Also, if the check engine lite is lit, you need to scan it before doing anything else. Also pull the plugs and see what they look like.

I think a spun bearing would make noise and give oil pressure warning light. What puzzles me is why, on a 99, it is not throwing a code if there is something this serious.
Have you checked to see if the thorttle cable has come loose? Have a friend help you, to make sure that, when you step on the gas, it is actually opening the throttle all the way. The cable could have shifted or got loose, then it may be that when you mash down on the thorttle, the cable shifts in its housing somewhere rather than open the thorttle fully.
the reason I suggest this is it is about the only thing I can imagine that would really bog that car down and not throw a code. (A clogged cat might, but that would cost a lot to replace - this won't cost much to check and fix if its loose.
