98 Camaro for son?
I'm new here and a Charger owner. I just bought my 15 year old son a silver 98 Camaro with a 3800 engine. How could I go about getting 250 plus horsepower out of it before his bithday in December? I can't afford the insurance for him on a V8. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'd just say no to more hp at this point having raised two boys myself, there's plenty of time for more power later and the stock V-6 has plenty now for a kid IMHO.
Just get him some cool sounding exhaust and call it good is my two cents.
I had an old Dodge pickup when I was that age ,I was just thrilled to have a set of wheels at all.

I agree with Y2K on this one. I had a '95 3.4 in high school that I bought when I was 15. Even with the 3.4 it had plenty of speed--probably too much for my own good. I didn't care that the car really had no *****. I had a frickin' CAMARO! It was still a blast to drive, and I had the coolest car out of any of my friends. Stock or not, your son's gonna love it.
Well pop,I'm sure he's a good kid but he's still a kid and the temptations are enormous.
My boys are 22 & 24,both good kids
I'd spend the money on your Dodge to make it faster then let him drive it once in a while with you riding shotgun.
I'd say getting a Camaro at all is the chit man,I'd of given my left nut for one at that age stock six or not.
Either way he gets one car from me in his life. Any other car he gets will have to be bought by someon other than me. I'm hoping that in a couple of years, he will want something more reliable and I can keep the camaro. I rebuild and turbo that motor to the hilt.
I completely agree. My first car was a 4 cylinder/4 speed Mustang -- it takes time to learn to drive [well]. :-D
