It still seems like it's related to fuel pressure... When my 95 doesn't want to start up easily when cold, it's due to the fuel pressure being low needs a new fuel pump. After it's warmed up, starts on the first shot otherwise...

God..

Went to start it this morning and it cranked once and then just made a bunch of whirling noise... tried again and only whirling... either just tore up the 3rd starter in 2 months or busted some flywheel teeth..

Fan-fu*king-tastic.

Dammit I hate this thing. I'm about to just have it hauled off and say screw it all.

When the engine isfirst started thePCM looks at the Speed Density tables (Open loop), theMAP sensor, IAT sensor, ECT sensor, and TP sensor in order to determine the proper A/F mixture. Once the engine is running and warming up it still remains in open loop andthe PCM uses the ECT, MAP, MAF, and TP sensors to determine the A/F mixture. After the engine is warmed up the PCM switches to closed loop mode, and looks at the ECT, MAF, TP, IAT and most of all the O2 sensors, the MAP is ignored. After all of this, you may want to take a look at the MAP, AIT, & ECT sensors. If they appear good, you may want to look at the Ignition Control Module sitting under the coil pack as it may have an intermittent trouble that comes in at cold temps.

Already tested an entirely new ignition control module, no change.

Had very similar problem - need to spray clean MAF sensors. Remove MAF (two torx screws) and spray the two little wires (they look like little resisitors) with MAF sensor cleaner. Do not use any other cleaner. Problem solved for me.

PS - my car also a 98 Camaro V6 bought used with 133k miles and had K&N filter. Maybe too much oil on air filter so coated the sensors? cleaning worked for me. Thanks for the blog - gave me the idea.
