Default 97 3.8L camaro Loss of power and shaking

Hey guys.
My camaro recently started acting up after about 20 mins of driving in cold conditions. First it started to lose power while driving especially when accelerating and shaking. After about 5 mins of this i started to smell a weird burning( not oil or coolant). This is happening after i filled gas and replaced a coolant line the week before that had blown out.
Any suggestions?
thanks a lot
Spark plugs and wires new
Oil changed recently
Heads recently machined for new valves
P.S also had the loss of power and shaking intermittently while idling

When an engine shakes it is misfiring. Being that it started shaking after you fixed it, you should go back and check your work. The smell you are talking about could be burning insulation, possibly from an ignition wire.

Thanks for the quick response. The work i did was just replacing a connection on the heater hose assembly and i checked to make sure it wasn't leaking. today im going to check fuel injector wires/plug wires to see if anything was chewed/burnt through. The only thing that has me worried is the engine shaking/loss of power was not a constant occurrence which would mean its either firing half of the time or its a different issue. Should i be worried about driving it to aut zone to run codes? the check engine is on now which im pretty sure will throw the lovely random misfire code >.<
Thanks for the help!

Back when i had my 99 RS, i had the same issue. Problem was the distributor or coils whatever they are called. Thankfully, i had my 98 Buick Regal GS i was selling parked right next to the RS. So about 5 minutes of unscrewing this and that. Everything was good to go. I would probably check that out. HTH

Update: Finally got my code reader and the lovely p0300 is my problem. Is there a way to test coil packs without just replacing them?

a spark plug tester MIGHT help narrow it down. my opinion I would just replace all three.

PO300 is the code from random multiple misfires. If no other code was set, then it is usually caused by a lean fuel mixture. Check the fuel pressure, and replace the fuel filter if it has been there for a while, make sure the MAF, EGR, and O2 sensors are in good working order. Since the code indicates that all cylinders are subject to misfire, you may also may want look at common ignition pieces such as the ICM and coil packs.
Most part store chains will test the coils and ICM free.
