There's actually two pinion seals, an inner and outer. The outer can be done, if I remember right, by removing the driveshaft. The inner requires you to remove the differential (and disassembling the pinion shaft) which is a lot of work, especially since it requires some special tools to do correctly.
I had a mech rebuild my diff for $450, it might be worth doing if its leaking really bad.

im showing two bearings and one seal 93 gm part #26026792. looks like the seal should not be to tough. u will need to be able to get the yoke off so a puller will be needed.

ok another question is how much would a tranny all the way to the rear end from a z28 cost and would it all fit? I figure that if i just got a rear end from a z28 that worked it would just fix alot of problems and this pinion seal thing.

I don't think the T56 trans will bolt up to a 3.4/3.8, but the driveshafts and rear ends are interchangable. The Z28 driveshafts are sometimes aluminum too, which is better than the steel ones and definitely better than the 2-piece steel units that the V6's came with.
