I'm not sure how to answer this. There are a couple things going on in your question. I understand you want to upgrade the engine. What is the deal with the ecu though? do you have an obd2 ecu in the car now or do you want to install an obd2?

I am not sure as to what you are aiming for, but your car came with a OBDI PCM and a OBDII diagnostic connector, and not a OBDII PCM with OBDI wiring. Your car uses a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) which also controls the transmission, and not an ECM which only controls the engine. In any event, messing with the programming on a 3.4 is not going to accomplish much.

The biggest problem with the 3.4 is the heads. If you do not fix that then everything else you do will not yield you much power. Anything that adds power will requirer the car to be tuned. The computer system is designed to run on a stock motor. To get more power you need to process more air. To correctly process that air you need the correct program.
In the other post you said you had 3K. You will not get your car as fast as a bone stock LT1 Camaro. Even if you spent every penny on parts did all the labor yourself you will still lose in a race with a stock V8. If you goal is to go fast and you want to work at it. You could keep you V6 as is buy a Z28 V8 LT1 with a blown head gasket for about $1500. Spend anothe $1500 on a re man LT1 long block and be at 285HP for your 3K. For a new LT1 285HP would just be the starting point Since everything is designed to handle near 300 HP going to 320 or 340 is not hard to do and will not trash the car. 230-250 in a 3.4 and its a grenade waiting for its pin to be pulled.

I'm in the process of upgrading my 3.4. If you really want to boost hp, look at swapping the top end from a 60* V6 fwd car. I'm doing heads and intake from a 2005 Malibu 3500 engine. I did 3500 instead of 3400 because compression will be slightly lower (11.5 vs 12+), so I'll be able to use my stock bottom end and drive with pump gas. You'll also need a much better cam (either get a custom one or call up Comp Cams and ask them what you need for your setup) and one heck of a tune. You'll also need either adjustable rockers or custom-length pushrods.
