Hello... I have a problem that Im not savvy on. I just bought a 94 camaro rs with a 3.4. This has the DIS right?? The car had a blown motor, so I went to a junkyard and pulled out a complete running 1994 3.4. Identical motor. (previous motor threw a rod) We have installed it, connected all the sensors, wires, etc. Everything matched up. It was complete from throttle body to oil pan. We installed nothing new on this running motor.
Now the problem. It sounds and acts like its 180 out of timing. Im used to distributor motors. This is what it sounds like. Popping through throttle body, choking, just like a 180 out distributor motor. Do I have to reset something in the computer? Yes the injector plugs are correct, and so is the firing order. Passenger side 1-3-5, driver 2-4-6. Coils hooked up correctly. Help!!

Did you verify the timing chain to be in the proper marks?
Something tells me that you need to do something with the computer, but I'm not exactly sure what. I've never replaced a computerized engine, only repair and overhaul.

First, if the check engine lite is lit, scan the the PCM and it will point you to the problem.
There is no timing adjustment, but make sure the plug wire are connected to the right coil & viceversa, and as usarmyrsngrs said, make sure the camshaft is timed properly.
There are 2 crankshaft position sensors, and 1 camshaft position sensor, that the PCM uses to time the spark and injectors.
Sensor location:
3x CKS - right side of block at midpoint of crankshaft
24x CKS - on front cover, behind harmonic damper
Cam Pos sensor, top rear of block
Coil pack layout:
/ 4/ 3/5 /
/ // /
/ 1/ 6/2/
Firing order: 1 2 3 4 5 6

The motor has never been apart since we took it out of a running donor car from the junkyard. The serpentine belt has never even been off. disconnected trans and wiring and removed from car. Re installed trans and wiring in my car. All plugs matched up correctly. Nothing spliced or modified. Its baffling me. I have an OBD scanner but its for later model cars. How can I pull the codes out manually. Still with a paper clip?? Please let me know. Thanks again.

I have a 94 camaro with the 3.4 V6it quit running and we replaced the two crank sensors and thecam sensor but our cam sensor is at the front of the intake maybe they used two different locations on the cam sensor and this requires the computer flashed per the VIN number. I had to giveauto zone the VIN number of my camaro when we changed our computer out. Our motor still not running either it also sounds like yours it pops in the throttle body when you give it gas . We tested the ignition control module and coils and all was good and have all plugs fire and we have fuel we are going to pull the timing cover and check our timing chain and gears sounds a lot like yours but being a junk yard motor I would check the chain and sprockets anyway.

You can buy a ALDL cable (Assembly Line Data Link cable) on the internet for about 60 bucks that will plug into the diagnostic port and use a laptop to read your cars computer and download free software to make it work. The paper clip wont work on the 94 model.

Are you sure the coils are on the ignition module correctly
look at z28 petes coil lay out the 1 and 4 is close to the throttle body side and 5 and 2 is close to the driver side. I just got mine runningIsomehow got the two backwards probably when we took them off to test it. Thankspete
