Hey guys,Just picked up a 94 (3.4L)with 120K on it.Runs great.But I have been noticing when I drive the car the temp stays at the middle point.When I come to a stop and have to sit there and idle for a little while the temp creeps up to the 3/4 point,Then the fan kicks on and it goes back down to half.The antifreeze is full.When I drive it the temp goes back down.The only thing i was told to watch for on this engine is that they blow head gaskets.But that can happen to Any engine.Im just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where I should start.I know the temp shouldnt creep up that high at an idle.it does go back down with the fan or when I take off again but I feel it should stay pretty steady throughout.Thanks!

Also to add.I do not smell antifreeze.The car doesnt overheat just what I explained happens.And it doesnt leak anything.

 

sounds about normal, if you want you could get a colder thermostat, but the temp will still creep up if your not moving, that is normal too, as long as the fans kick on you'll be fine.

 

Ah ok,I am just alittle paranoid is all.It doesnt jump up all of a sudden.I might throw a 160 in there for the summer months.But it looks like changing that T-stat will be a job.I cant see how to get the bolts loose with a ratchet.I will have to figure something out.As long as that is normal operation though I am happy

 

I have the same car and thought the same thing. I have bought a thermostat but havent put it in yet because it is sorta cramped in there. other wise if you want the fans on at lower temps to keep you cool when you arent moving, check out http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0113&langId=-1
those kits let you choose and change the temp at which the fans come on [sm=lol.gif]
