To the OP. What gears do you currently have in it (look on the door for codes. I think GU4=3.08 GU5=3.23 and GU6=3.42) my car came stock with 3.42's and posi (door code G80)

i just got 373s in my car because i blew the rear end, the 373s are awsome in my opinion, still a lot better than the stock but doesn't wreck your MPG, it's takes pretty much no effort to spin out lol. i would suggest 373s because i think with 410s in an auto will wind up to fast, you'll have bettr 0-60 but your mpg will be alot lower and your top speed will go down, just my opinion

This is wrong... GU4 is 3.08, GU5 is 3.23, and GU6 is 3.42... G80 is indeed limited slip.

And as Rob said... And even I said... 4.10s = wacked out first gear... You either won't keep tires or you'll go sideways if you even think about mashing the gas lol

yea you will have no first gear, and you prolly won't move foward very much, 410s are a little too much lol, i would say go with 373s at most

You'll move forward.... A HIGHER gear will make it harder to move the car. The torque generated from 4.10s will cause an auto to break the tires TOO easily. Hence Rob's reasoning of you going sideways at a whim

ok i worded that wrong, his tires will spin foward the car it self will not move foward off the line. truthfully 373s are plenty for a v-6 you have to understand that the bigger the gear ratio is the faster it winds up and the faster your rpms go, i don't think a 6 has enough power to even start off in 1st if you have 410s. like they say you ahve to crawl before you can walk, i would say get 373s and if thats not enough for you go bigger but believe me it will be a diffrence from the stock gears, i just got 373s in my car and i dropped the clutch at like 2000 rpm and the wheels spun all the way down my block. just my friendly advice

I know you definitely worded that wrong.

yea... ive been having that problem lately, i was crunching down for finals weeks and my mind is kinda burnt out lol, what i meant is your gonna spin your tires off the line when you race because if i can spin my tires down my block from dropping the clutch at 2 with 373s then what do you think is gonna happen with 410s?, over all the best choice in my opinion for a v-6 is 373s anything else is too OP and i didn't mean it didn't have enough power i meant your gonna burn 1st alot faster than would would with a smaller ratio gear due to the actual wieght of the rear end and the gear's ratio obviously, i didn't mean to bash on the v-6s because i have one and it has plenty of power, the only way you can really make 410s work correctly is if you balance the wieght better in the rear. ect. i'm not gonna ramble too much =P

One thing EVERYONE needs to understand in here is that gears are NOT the first mod to do. Running the engine at higher rpm's means it has to breathe better, so headers, exhaust, and a cai/shaved lid are a must. Gears will also throw your speedo for a loop, and the only way to have that taken care of is by tuning. 96 camaro's cannot be tuned, a 97 pcm must be swapped.

4.10 gears are great for street/strip on auto and 5 speeds. Though some exhaust drone is obviously expected thanks to the higher rpm's. Also, launching at the track will be more difficult, traction is a definate issue with low gears. Posi is a MUST with 4.10's as well, unless you want to pull one leggers for the rest of your life.

All that said, yes, 4.10 gears are a fantastic upgrade, but they are NOT the first upgrade to be done.
